PREMIUM PINTO BEANS

Premium Pinto Beans are medium-sized, oval legumes with a distinctive speckled pinkish-tan color that becomes uniform light brown when cooked. While originally from the Americas, pinto beans have gained popularity in Nigeria as an alternative protein source, valued for their excellent nutritional profile, quick cooking time, and versatility in both traditional Nigerian dishes and international cuisine. Our pinto beans are carefully cleaned, graded for size uniformity, and packaged to preserve their distinctive color and nutritional value.
Pinto beans are particularly noted for their high antioxidant content, especially kaempferol, a flavonoid with anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce cancer risk. They have a low glycemic index (GI ~39), making them excellent for blood sugar management, and their high fiber content (15g per cup cooked) supports digestive health and weight management. Pinto beans cook relatively quickly compared to other varieties and develop a creamy texture with a slightly nutty flavor. They are excellent for refried beans, chili, soups, and can be substituted in Nigerian recipes like Moin-Moin or bean stews for a nutritional boost.

Storage Instructions

Store in airtight containers in a cool, dry, dark place

Shelf life: 12-24 months when properly stored

Moisture critical: Must be kept completely dry—pinto beans are susceptible to mold

Temperature: Ideal storage at 15-20°C; avoid areas with temperature fluctuations

Light protection: Prolonged light exposure can fade the distinctive speckled color

Pest management: Regular inspection for weevils is essential; pinto beans are attractive to storage pests

Soaking recommendation: Always soak dry beans before cooking to reduce gas-causing compounds

For long-term storage (2+ years), freeze in vacuum-sealed bags

Once opened, use within 6-12 months for best cooking quality

Discard any beans that show signs of mold, off-odors, or insect damage

Do not store near strong-smelling foods as pinto beans can absorb odors
