PURE HONEY (Raw/Unprocessed)
Our Premium Pure Nigerian Honey is a natural, unprocessed sweetener produced by honeybees (Apis mellifera) from the nectar of diverse Nigerian flora. Unlike processed honey that undergoes pasteurization and fine filtration, our raw honey retains all its natural beneficial compounds including bee pollen, propolis, enzymes, and micronutrients.
This golden liquid represents one of nature's most perfect foods—a natural antibacterial, antioxidant-rich sweetener that has been used in traditional Nigerian medicine for centuries.
Our honey is carefully harvested from sustainable apiaries across Nigeria's diverse agro-ecological zones, ensuring a rich, complex flavor profile that reflects the local botanical heritage. It is lightly filtered only to remove large debris while preserving all natural pollen grains and beneficial compounds.
Honey serves multiple purposes in Nigerian cuisine: as a spread on bread, sweetener for pap (ogi), natural remedy for coughs and sore throats, wound dressing in traditional medicine, and ingredient in traditional beverages. Its natural sweetness (1.5x sweeter than sugar) means less is needed to achieve desired sweetness.

Key Benefits: Natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties—effective against E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Helicobacter pylori. Rich in antioxidants (flavonoids, phenolic acids) that reduce oxidative stress and chronic disease risk. Wound-healing properties—traditional use validated by modern research for burns and ulcers. Soothes coughs and sore throats—natural demulcent effect. Contains prebiotics that feed beneficial gut bacteria. Natural energy booster—quick absorption of glucose and fructose. Better than refined sugar—lower glycemic index (60 vs 65 for sugar) and contains trace nutrients. Supports immune function through antimicrobial and antioxidant activity. Never spoils when properly stored—archaeological honey remains edible after thousands of years.
Storage Instructions
Store in a cool, dry place in tightly sealed glass or food-grade containers
Shelf life: Indefinite when properly stored; crystallization is natural and reversible
Temperature: Room temperature (15-25°C) ideal; avoid temperatures above 30°C
Refrigeration: Not recommended—cold accelerates crystallization and makes honey difficult to pour
Container: Glass jars preferred; food-grade plastic acceptable; avoid metal containers (honey is acidic and can react with metal)
Moisture: CRITICAL—honey must be kept dry; moisture above 18% causes fermentation and spoilage
Crystallization: Natural process where glucose forms crystals—does NOT indicate spoilage; gently warm jar in hot water (not boiling) to re-liquefy
Light protection: Store in dark place—light degrades some beneficial compounds over time
Air exposure: Keep tightly sealed—honey absorbs moisture and odors from air
Signs of spoilage: Fermentation (bubbling, alcohol smell), mold growth, or off-odors—rare if moisture content is proper
Usage note: Never feed to infants under 12 months—risk of infant botulism from Clostridium botulinum spores
